Electrocardiographic Changes in Diabetic Patients

Abstract
Electrocardiogram was analysed in 39 cases (20 cases of male and` 19 cases of female) of diabetes mellitus and. 10 cases of control, and the results were as follows.
1. Sinus tachycardia and¢¥ bradycardia were noted in 17.9 per cent and 7.6 per cent of diabetics.
2. Heart position showed: intermediate in 43. 5 per cent, left axis deviation in 2.5 per cent, clockwise rotation in 7.6 per cent, and counter clockwise rotation in 12.8 per cent of diabetics.
3. Amplitude and duration of P wave and amplitude of R wave were 0.56¡¾0: 06mm, 00.8¡¾0.02 sec. , and 8. 9¡¾0. 27mm in control, and 1. 05+0.04,=, 0.07¡¾0.01 sec. , and 10.5¡¾0.32xx in diabetic group, respectively.
4. Prolongation of QTc interval was in 7.6 per cent of diabetics.
5. Abnormal electrocardiogram in diabetic group included left ventricular hypertrophy in 35.7 per cent, flattened or inverted T wave in 28.5 per cent, first degree A-V block in 14.2 per cent, low voltage in 14.2 per cent, WPW. syndrome, P-pulmonale, P-mitrale, myocardial infarction, incomplete right bundle branch block, atrial premature contraction, and atrial fibrillation in 7. 1, per. cent respectively.
Abnormal electrocardiogram in. uncomplicated diabetics included findings of left ventricular hypertrophy in 5.1 per cent, inverted T wave in 10. 2 per cent, and left atrial enlargement in 2.5 per cent.
